A 19-year-old individual from Devonport, Tasmania, was apprehended in Hobart’s CBD following alleged thefts. Police conducted a foot patrol in the city and arrested the teenager after he was suspected of stealing items from a local business. Upon searching the young man, authorities discovered a loaded homemade gun, ammunition, stolen goods, and cannabis in his possession.

The teenager is now facing multiple charges, including possessing a firearm without a license, theft, unlawful possession, possessing a loaded firearm in public without authorization, possession of ammunition, and selling and possessing a controlled substance (cannabis). Scheduled to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today, the individual’s arrest serves as a reminder of the vigilance required to maintain community safety.

Inspector John Toohey highlighted the police force’s dedication to safeguarding both the community and local businesses. He emphasized the importance of community members feeling secure in their homes, public spaces, and workplaces.
