Former ABC radio presenter, Antoinette Lattouf, faced a setback in her legal battle against the broadcaster. Lattouf had filed a case with the Fair Work Commission after alleging she was unfairly terminated from her casual presenting role in December following a social media post concerning the conflict in Gaza. Her request for the ABC to provide emails addressed to its chair and managing director, urging for her dismissal, was rejected by the commission.
The case also revealed additional complexities, including allegations that a group named Lawyers for Israel had lodged complaints against Lattouf, triggering a public debate on the ABC’s coverage of the Gaza conflict. Despite claims by Lattouf regarding breaches of social media policy and racial discrimination in her dismissal, the ABC defended its actions. The broadcaster contended that Lattouf was not terminated but had her on-air responsibilities reduced, also refuting any allegations of racial bias in the decision-making process.
The matter is set to return to the Fair Work Commission for further proceedings next month, prolonging the legal dispute between Antoinette Lattouf and the ABC.
