A Melbourne surgeon, Dr. George Dimitroulis, is currently embroiled in a lawsuit for alleged negligence in failing to fully inform a patient, referred to as Bianca, about the risks associated with a jaw operation. Bianca claims that the procedure to replace temporomandibular joints (TMJ) resulted in severe injuries including vertigo, speech difficulties, and disfigurement. She further alleges that Dr. Dimitroulis did not disclose his commercial interest in the company manufacturing the devices used in the surgery.

In defense, Dr. Dimitroulis denies any wrongdoing and asserts that he adequately advised Bianca of the potential risks involved in the surgical procedure. The lawsuit has had a profound impact on Bianca’s life, leading her to resign from her job and relocate to a quieter area for additional support.

The case highlights the importance of transparent communication between medical professionals and patients regarding surgical procedures and associated risks, emphasizing the need for full disclosure and informed consent to ensure patient safety and well-being.
